Achari Murgh or Achar Murg

We used to love this preparation in a local restaurant and decided to try it on our own. We failed the first couple of times, but then it came out just right! I haven't found a soul who disliked it.

Ingredients-
Spice mixture
1 tsp Mustard seeds
1 tsp Cumin seeds
1/2 tsp Fenugreek seeds
4-6 Cloves
1 tsp Fennel seeds
1/2 tsp Onion Seeds

1 tbsp oil
1 lb whole chicken
1 1/2 onions finely chopped
½ onion cut into long slices
1 capsicum cut into lengthy pieces
1 tomato finely chopped
Coriander leaves
Salt to taste
¼ inch ginger, chopped fine
½ tsp chopped garlic cloves
½ tsp Turmeric powder
1 tsp Red chilli powder
Water
1 tsp lemon juice

Serves: 4

Method-
Heat oil in a wok and add the spice mixture as per the order specified above or all at once.
Once the mustard seeds start popping, lower the flame to medium, add the sliced onions and saute for a minute.
Add the remaining onion and fry till it’s golden brown.
Add the fresh ginger and garlic and saute for 2 minutes.
Once done, add capsicum and fry for about 2 minutes or till the capsicum mixes well with the mixture.
Add chicken and cook covered till it gets a white color, for about 3 minutes.
Add turmeric and chilli powder and mix.
Add tomatoes and mix well.
Cook covered for about 5 minutes, stirring occasionally till the tomatoes disappear into the mixture.
Add salt and water, cover and cook for 15 minutes or till the chicken becomes tender.
Sprinkle a tsp of lime juice and the coriander leaves and serve hot!
