This is a popular breakfast item in south India with slightly different versions everywhere. The below recipe is used by Konkanis.
Ingredients-
1 1/2 cup Idly Rava
1 tsp mustard seeds
1 tsp Urad Daal
1/2 cup grated coconut
2-3 Curry leaves
1 cup water
2 tsp Oil
Salt to taste
Serves -2-3
Method-
Heat oil in a pan and add mustard seeds. When they start to splutter, add urad daal, curry leaves and saute for few secs and lower the heat.
Add water, salt, grated coconut to this and mix well.
Now add the idly rava, mix it and cook for 3-4 mins. Add more water if required. This would form a thick coarse paste. Turn off heat.
While the paste is still hot, grease your hand with oil and start making lemon sized balls of this paste and make a hole on top of them. Steam these for 15-20 mins.
They are ready to be served for breakfast. You can have it with coconut chutney, any spicy curry, oil and pickle or even something sweet like maple syrup.
